Creating a Silver Alien Orb
1. Create a new document. Fill in the background with black. Then go to Filter > Render > Lense Flare. Use the 50-300mm Zoom. Repeat this four times in the locations indicated below.

2. Go to Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap. Use these settings below.

3. Resulting image below.

4. Go to Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates. Be sure to go from rectangular to polar.

5. Now change the hue / saturation by going to Images > Adjustments > Hue / Saturation. Use the settings below. Be sure to note that we did NOT check the Colorize box.

6. Now go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness / Contrast. Change the settings until you get a similar image to that below. And when you are finished, you will have a VERY attractive silver orb.

7. But we know that silver is a cool color, there are other good looking orbs too. Below are other versions of the tutorial that use different colors and brightness / contrast settings. Look below.

8. Below is a fiery version. These variations go to show that you can get many different results from the same tutorial. All of them look amazing!

Creating a smiley with a cap
Start by creating a circle using elliptical shape tool.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply layer style with the settings shown.
Create an elliptical selection using elliptical marquee tool. Create a new layer and apply a black to white gradient in linear mode.
Change the layer mode to screen.
Create a circle using elliptical shape tool.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply layer style with the settings shown.
Create an ellipse for the eye ball using elliptical shape tool.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply layer style with the settings shown.
Duplicate the eye layers and place it on the other side.
Create an ellipse for the mouth using elliptical shape tool.
Create a rounded rectangle using rounded rectangle shape tool.
Enable subtract form shape area form the top bar. Create an ellipse using elliptical shape tool.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply layer style with the settings shown.
Ctrl+Click the layer thumbnail to get the selection. From select menu apply modify>>contract. Contract the selection by 2 pixels. Create a new layer and apply a black to white gradient in linear mode.
Change the layer mode to color dodge.
Create a flap using pen tool.
Apply the same layer style and layer mode as we did for the cap.
Using pen tool create depth of the cap.
Select all the layers and scale down.

Drawing a Cartoon Warrior

Start by creating a rounded rectangle using rounded rectangle shape tool.
Apply 2 pixels stroke to the layer.
Create helmet of the warrior using pen tool.
Create a rectangle using rectangular shape tool. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Adjust nodes to get the shape as shown.
Create a rectangle using rectangular shape tool. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Adjust nodes to get the shape as shown.
Create an ellipse using elliptical shape tool. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Adjust nodes to get the shape as shown.
Enable add to shape area form the top bar.
Create a rectangle using rectangular shape tool.
Create another ellipse using elliptical shape tool. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Adjust nodes to get the shape as shown.
Duplicate the layer scale down. Fill it with a different color.
Create eyes of the warrior using elliptical shape tool.
Start creating warrior robe by creating a rounded rectangle using rounded rectangle shape tool. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Select arc from the custom warp presets.
Duplicate the layer several times. Scale down and place as shown.
Create a rectangle for the body using rectangular shape tool. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Adjust nodes to get the shape as shown.
Enable add to shape area form the top bar. Create a rectangle for the leg using rectangular shape tool. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Adjust nodes to get the shape as shown.
Duplicate the path. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select flip horizontal. Place it for the other leg.
Create boots using pen tool.
Duplicate the boot layer, flip horizontally and place it on the other side.
Create belt using basic shapes.
Create a rounded rectangle using rounded rectangle shape tool. Press Ctrl+T and rotate.
Again create the arm using rectangle shape tool and applying warp as mentioned in previous steps.
Create a folded hand using pen tool.
Complete the flowing robe by creating a rectangle and applying warp. Move this layer below all the layers in layer order in layer palette.
Create a rectangle using rectangular shape tool. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Adjust nodes to get the shape as shown.
From layer menu select layer style>>create layers. Select and merge both the resulting layers. Using eraser tool erase the top left edge.
Add facial expression using a 2 pixels solid brush.
